SLIDING. ROCA COMPETITION ’09
The project arises starting from the main idea of generating a space / new product, with a view to the future necessities of our society.
The self-imposed premises are:
- To adjust the space from the bathroom to the current reduced spaces of housing.
- To simplify the facilities, so much of plumbing as of reparation. It is supplied to the whole object by means of a pipe, and the residuals are picked up on the whole (excepting the toilet with an own sifónico boat).
- To create an attractive design for the possible users.
- To create a versatile element that contains all the necessary programs for spaces of this type.
As you can observe in the enclosed images, the presented project is an element in curved, attractive and futurist ways that lodges the elements that at the moment compose a bathroom: a washbasin, a toilet, a shower, a mirror and drawers.
We intend to compact all these components in an only object that gives a design touch to our bathroom spaces, at the same time that it only allows to deploy the elements that are going to be used, optimizing this way the remaining general space.
Their construction would be carried out by means of reinforced plastics and some metals for concrete elements as us faucets. The chosen colours, white and orange, look for a balance. On the one hand white, symbolizes well-being, purity, and tranquillity. On the other hand orange that is not appreciated at first sight; it appears when deploying each element, giving life to the space in general.
The operation is very simple, by means of five basic actions accessible to any user’s type; one can spread the object in its entirety. On the one hand we have the washbasin that slips on a guide appearing in a side of the element; On the other hand the mirror, which spreads pressing in a side; drawers, with the same operation that the previous one, are located in the front part, on the washbasin; we also have a toilet, in the opposed side that opens up rotating on their own base; and to conclude, the shower that appears in the same way that the mirror and the drawers.
The object has a very wide use, since it contains five sub-objects, each user can combine the uses that he believes necessary, and it can be used at the same time by several users. It is a personal decision; it can be a new object every time that diverse user (or the same one) uses it, thanks to their variety of movements. Therefore it is an active object, not static. It can be accompanied by means of conditions of their environment that strengthen their utilities. For example, you can place it in a room, or in the middle of a transparent space, protected by panels, or in the open, illuminated by focuses, or with perfumes that help us to create the wanted atmosphere, with music or without her…
The operation of each part of the project is explained in the main sheet, as a user’s manual:
- The washbasin: it contains a space to keep the toothbrushes, as well as storage for liquid soap next to the main faucet.
- The mirror: of big dimensions, it can be used from both sides.
- The drawers: being adjusted to the surface of the general object, they have diverse sizes, to lodge diverse objects.
- The toilet: of a standard height, it contains a space to keep the hygienic paper.
- The shower: of wide dimensions, it allows an added comfort, and a maximum reach, with regard to the human body.
